DNS( DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE COURSE )
1 Year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) leading to BSc Nautical Science through IMU CET EXAM (Indian Maritime University) DG Shipping approved, Govt. of India. On successful completion of this course the trainees can join as a NAUTICAL TRAINEE CADET on board a ship (Indian / Foreign Shipping Companies). With further sea service and post sea training program, the nautical cadets can appear for the second mate examination. After passing they will be joining as navigational watch keeping officer as second mate onboard a ship. With further sea service, they will be promoted to CHIEF OFFICER & then MASTER (Captain) of the ship.
Introduction :Intention is to achieve higher quality of training to meet the competition at international level and thus increasing prospect of employment in the Global Merchant Shipping market.
Job Opportunities :Shipping is a continuously growing industry, and trained persons find jobs in Indian and foreign shipping companies with attractive salaries.
Life on board Ships : Ships move along the coast and across the oceans and carry different types of cargoes. Number of persons working on a ship depends upon its type, size and its trade. The number of persons can range between 6-30 and greater number on passenger ships. It is important for each person to be able to work independently as well as in a small team. Physical health, agility, good habit, and discipline are very important qualities required of a seafarer. One needs to be willing to work with hands, in different conditions, be safety conscious, and be able to stay away from home and friends for few months at a time.
COURSE CONTENT: The course is conducted over 3 stages, as follows: | |
STAGE 1: | Deck Cadet (DNS) program – 1 Year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) leading to BSc Nautical Science through IMU CET EXAM (Indian Maritime University) in D.G Shipping College. |
STAGE 2: | Shipboard Attachment Program (SAP) 18 - Months Sea going training on board merchant ships, A Distance Learning Program (DLP) will have to be completed by all the trainees during this stage. |
STAGE 3: | 2nd Mate (FG Exam) – Classes, Written & Orals – 8 to 10 months. |
Eligibility: | 12th / PCM / BSC / BE / B Tech (a) Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% OR (b) B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year. OR (c) B.E. /B. Tech. Degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year. The candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Std or in the Degree course conducted by recognized Board or any University. |
Age: | 17.5 To 25 Years. |
Medical Fitness: | Medically fit eyesight 6/6 without external aids. No color blindness. |
Selection Procedure: | Candidate will undergo an aptitude and written tests followed by an interview. The final selection will only takes place after medical check-up through our panel Doctor. |
